You wouldn't think that the best way to bathe your baby would be in a tub that looks like a mop bucket, but the fact of the matter is, doctors and midwives have been recommending baby bucket bathtubs for years. It's true, you will need to replace your bucket bath with a conventional baby bathtub after 6 months old, but from newborn to 6 months, your baby will love the womb-like feel of the bucket tub. My daughter Amelia, who is now 13 months old, used the Prince Lionheart WashPOD and loved it! We were initially using the Primo Eurobath when she first came home from the hospital, but she wasn't submerged in water and bathtime was always a sad time rather than a relaxing time. Some things to note about using bucket bathtubs: you need a lot less water than you think and be careful not to overfill. My daughter liked to put her head down and try to drink the water, so you may want to mark the tub once you get the water level right so that you have your own fill line for future baths. Also once your baby gets to be around 6 month old, they are actually able to pop up out of the tub and try to stand so be very careful and don't use the tub on a raised surface at that point.
Tummy Tub is another great brand that I wasn't aware of when my daughter was little. The Tummy Tub works the same way as the WashPOD and even comes with a great base that turns into a stool, potty, and ottoman! Tummy Tub is also great for babies with colic as it soothes them and reminds them of being in the womb!
Now that Amelia is older, she is still using her Primo Eurobath and we love it! It saves water because you don't have to fill the entire bath tub. There's lot of space for her to play and I know that she won't slip because of the bar in the middle. It's great until children are two years old and I intend to save water until then!
